Mango Profile

Introduction

The mango is one of the world's most valued fruit. It is a major crop in some tropical and sub-tropical countries. It is found consistently within the markets of North America, Europe and Asia .

The mango is highly versatile in its use. Chutneys, pickles and other green mango products require suitable cultivars whose textures, flavour and fibre content lends them to be used at the mature green stage.

Once peeled the mango flesh does not cause allergic reactions in most people and can be eaten without worry. Fruits imported into the United States have been subjected to hot water treatment to rid them of unwanted pests.

Why invest in MANGO?

  • Ready market
  • High yielding crop
  • High demand on both the local & export market
  • Easily grown in suitable climate

Market Potential

Mangoes are needed for the fresh local and export markets and to a lesser extent, the processing market.

Export Market

The fresh mature fruit is exported to United Kingdom , Canada and Cayman. Fruits are not exported to USA because of Sanitary and Phytosanitary restrictions imposed on the products.

Requirements for the export market:

The fruits must be clean of all pesticide residue, free from cuts and bruises, mature and the degree of ripeness is dependent on the distant to the market and the method of transportation. Generally mature turned mangoes are air-freighted to the overseas markets.
