Tattoo Kit

Tattooing is one method of identification that is permanent if properly done.  Tattooing requires a pair of pliers and numbers or letters made of sharp, needlelike projections which pierce the skin. The tattoo ink is forced into the punctures and remains visible after the puncture wounds heal.

Elastrator

And elastrator is a castration device that cuts off circulation to the testicles when utilized. The elastrator is used to stretch a strong rubber band over the scrotum and above the testicles. When the band is secured, the testicles are tightly tied off at the base of the scrotum and allowed to die from lack of blood.

Bolus Applicator

The bolus applicator is made of a handle, a tube and a terminal part to place the bolus. It is available in three different lengths with an inclination that permits the insertion in various types of animals: for sheep, goats and calves; for adult cows; for buffalo.

Ear Notcher

These are available in sizes with some having an adjustable depth gauge.  Ear-nothcing in pigs helps identify a pig’s litter and which one of the litter it is, giving each pig a unique identity number.

Hoof Trimmer

Hoof trimmers are used to trim the outgrowth of hoof wall from the hoof. The pointed ends of the trimmer can be used for cleaning out dirt and debris embedded in the hooves, and the narrow blade helps make cutting more accurate.

Ear Tag Applicator/ Ear Tag

An eartag can is applied with the use of an applicator. These tags are used for the identification of animals and usually carry an individual identification number of code for the animal, or for its herd or flock. Depending on the purpose of the tagging, an animal may be tagged on one or both ear.

Pig Tooth Nipper

This is used for clipping needle teeth in baby pigs. Some breeders also use the clipper for docking tails and for castration.

Hoof Knife

A hoof knife is for trimming away loose dried-out sole. Do not cut into live flesh or the sole will be sore and may bleed. The hoof knife is also used to trim off loose and ragged from.

Wire Saw

A wire saw is used for the dehorning of animal if their horns become dangerously long where they could get caught in a fence or accidently hurt a care giver. There is a living core inside the horn that when cut too short, can cause severe bleeding. To avoid cutting too short, cut in small increments.

Weight Tape

The weight tape accurately estimates weight of an animal without the use of a scale. It is available for various types of livestock and gives weight estimation based on the heart girth of the animal.
